Emmet Scanlan & What the Good Thought are an Independent music act whose music veers away from the usual yet is embraced by all of those who hear it.
Emmet formed the group 'Emmet Scanlan & What the Good Thought' in the Summer of 2004. With a head full of song ideas upon returning from a bit globe trekking, Emmet decided to set up camp in Galway on the west coast of Ireland and gather a band. What they have produced together is not a conventional sound - they have involved percussion, cello and various other implements - but the result is infectious, to say the least!
Over the course of the last few years the band have gone from strength to strength, both at home in Ireland and abroad. Their 2006 self-titled debut EP put them in good stead and 2009 saw them release their first full-length record to much critical acclaim -
'a debut that makes considerable virtue of its scattergun song book….they sink deep beneath the skin of a song' - The Irish Times.
Emmet also provided the soundtrack to the shoot film 'Without Words', which has been praised by Spike Lee and viewed over 500,000 on-line.
On the live circuit, the band have played numerous prestigious festivals worldwide : The Wickerman Festival (Scotland), The Electric Picnic (Ireland) and The International Folk Alliance (USA). The list of artists is diverse in style and includes Femi Kuti, Badly Drawn Boy and The Saw Doctors.
Emmet has recently moved to London where he and the band are busy recording the next offering and building their name in the UK. The time is currently divvied between here and Ireland in the run up to the next release, due 2013.
